William
W. Reed (top photo) was born in Kent, Ohio in 1867 and received
his education in the local schools. After graduating from Cincinnati
College of Dental Surgery, Mr. Reed opened a dental practice
in Kent and continued to operate it for 20 years. He sold his
practice, served as Kent's postmaster until 1913, then entered
the general Insurance business with his son Glen (middle photo).
Glen H.
Reed organized the First Federal Savings & Loan Association
of Kent in 1934, and on January 1, officially entered into the
Real Estate business with less than $10,000 capital. The University
Heights Allotment stands as a monument to his foresight. The
underdeveloped farm land was transformed into one of the most
beautiful and improved residential districts in Portage County.
